Atlantic Moves joins Ontario Dances for Toronto workshops

January 30, 2014 | On Tuesday, January 21st, representatives from Atlantic Moves attended workshops with the Ontario Arts Council's, Ontario Dances program.

The two networks discussed how to encourage active, participatory audience experiences in dance, as well as round table talks on the successes and challenges of dance outreach activities.

Representatives in attendance included:

Darcy Campbell, Confederation Centre of the Arts, PE

Line Thibodeau, Conseil communautaire beausoleil, RADARTS member, NB

Susan Hoover, Osprey Arts Centre, Dance outreach worker

Kathleen McLeod, Imperial Theatre, Dance outreach worker

Here's what they had to say!

"It was great to see new ways to present and promote dance shows. I was interested about the new concept "dance by accident;" how people are attracted and exposed to dance without knowing it by offering many opportunities to see dance in unexpected places." Line Thibodeau

"There is no better opportunity to learn more about dance then for the presenters who present dance to collect in a space and discuss what has worked and not worked for each of us." Darcy Campbell

"As always, I appreciated working with the Ontario Dance members who have more experience with presenting dance than we do. Both morning activities were very inspiring and full of ideas." Susan Hoover

"Ontario Dances was a great way for someone new, like myself, to understand what others are doing in their communities. The conversations about what's working, and where to put my energy was great." Kathleen McLeod

A BIG thank you to the Ontario Arts Council's, Ontario Dances program for inviting Atlantic Moves to take part!
