Atlantic Movers attend national dance meetings at Festival of New Dance
October 27, 2016 | From October 5th - 6th, the Alliance of Canadian Dance Networks/Alliance des reseaux canadiens de danse, which includes members from Atlantic Moves, CanDance, La danse sur les routes, Made in BC and Ontario Dances, met in conjunction with the 26th annual Festival of New Dance. The theme of the meetings, as determined by a Programming Committee of network members, was Indigenous Performing Arts.
On October 5th, participants heard from numerous speakers on the subject of Indigenous Performing Arts, including artists, funders and presenters. Panelists and speakers included dance artists Lara Kramer, Margaret Grenier and Sarain Carson-Fox; Aboriginal Officer, Steven Loft, Canada Council of the Arts; presenter Robin Poitras, New Dance Horizons; and moderator, Stan Hill, Board Chair, NL Arts Council. The following day, October 6th, participants were given the opportunity to reflect on these presentations as well as work collectively to create a plan for next steps or “actions” in their community and across the performing arts sector.
