Prismatic Arts Festival Invites You to "THE TALK"

July 27, 2017 | Your fellow APA member, the Prismatic Arts Festival, invites you to join them in Halifax during the 2017 Festival and TALK (conference) events - September 14-23. Prismatic is a leading presenter in the Atlantic region of Indigenous and culturally diverse artists, from across Canada. Attending Prismatic is a great way to see local rising stars, leading Canadian artists and a few international surprises.

Prismatic will be releasing it's line up of performances soon and tickets will be on sale this month. Keep up on all the news at www.prismaticfestival.com.

Here's a sneak peek for APA members: Juno award-winnig cellist, Cris Derksen's Orchestral Powwow - featuring a team of musicians and dancers; MT Space Theatre's The Raft - which tells the stories of refugees crossing the Mediterranean; Santee Smith / Kahawi Dance Theatre's ReQuickening (co-presented with Live Art Dance); a video arts installation by Paul Wong (co-presented with SMU Art Gallery); and a performance by The Mariachi Ghost.

In addition to a stellar line-up of performances, Prismatic has a 3-day conference (The TALK) September 18-20, which will explore a range of issues related to equity and diversity in the arts. There are flexible registration options, but the best value is a full conference registration plus festival pass - full access to all Prismatic events - for $250. More information on The TALK: http://prismaticfestival.com/the-talk/

Discussion topics will include: looking at the role of service organizations in supporting diversity; how arts schools and training centers contribute to promoting equity in the arts; exploring how constraints of touring / presenting may be affecting artistic creation. There will also be an international panel that will discuss the comparative experiences of changing arts funding policies in Canada, the UK and Australia. The TALK is an excellent way to engage in discussion about important cultural topics, network with artists, presenters and other stakeholders, and to learn about best practices related to arts presentation.

If you are coming from out of town, you can book a room at the Atlantica Hotel Halifax using the Prismatic sponsor discounts: http://prismaticfestival.com/accommodations/ Prismatic is looking forward to seeing their APA colleagues at Prismatic 2017! More info: info@prismaticfestival.com.
